Using Skin Cellular, Acellular and Matrix-like Products (CAMPs) To Heal Your Wounds
Cellular, Acellular and Matrix-like Products (CAMP), formerly known as skin substitutes, are a therapeutic class of materials that when applied can provide a barrier over open hard-to heal wounds. These products consist of a broad collection of various combinations of cellular and acellular components, both human and animal derived, intended to stimulate regeneration of lost or damaged tissue and replace such with functional skin.
CAMPs can be used to treat a variety of skin wounds and injuries. They promote wound healing, reduce pain, recreate the skin's barrier function, and stimulate tissue regeneration. Wounds applicable for application include (non-inclusive):
Burns
Chronic wounds
Surgical wounds
Pressure ulcers
Diabetic ulcers
Vascular ulcers
There are several types of CAMP products available for use. These products include Human Skin Allografts, Allogeneic Matrices, Composite Matrices, and Acellular Matrices. Each has its own placement requirements for depending on the type of wound. The product used on your wound will be determined by your provider and will be best suited for your wound.
CAMP products have been shown to accelerate wound healing with fewer complications from infection and dehydration. It may take weeks for a wound to regenerate, replace lost tissue, regain acceptable function, and improve your quality of life.
